Hi! Welcome to Mrs. Costner's 2006-2007 First Grade Class. We are students at North Myrtle Beach Primary School. Our school is located just a few blocks away from the Atlantic Ocean in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Our teacher is Mrs. Betsey Costner. She has been a teacher in both North and South Carolina for 10 years. She has a BS in Elementary Education from Appalachian State University and a MEd in Early Childhood Education from Coastal Carolina University. This was her first year using the Hearts' Stories curriculum in our classroom and she says she will never teach another year without using classroom interviews as a part of her teaching.

You would never believe the people we have interviewed this year. Since October we have had 25 special guests visit our classroom. Each of us got to pick the special guest we wanted to invite to visit our classroom for an interview. Some of us chose grandmothers, uncles, sisters, friends, and our moms and dads. We have learned what it is like to work as a chef, house builder, furniture designer, truck driver, teacher, college student, and golf professional. We have also learned about local businesses such as charter fishermen, restaurant owners, travel agents, golf / condo salesmen, grocery store owners, and real estate agents. We were also lucky to have members of our school community come to our classroom for interviews, like our assistant principal and reading teachers.

We love Hearts' Stories and we always look forward to our weekly interviews each Friday morning. We have really become fabulous note takers, researchers, and writers.
