Hi! Welcome to Mrs. Costner's 2007-2008 Second Grade Class. We are students from Forestbrook Elementary School in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Our teacher is Mrs. Betsey Costner. She has been a teacher in both North and South Carolina for over 11 years. She has a BS in Elementary Education from Appalachian State University and a MEd in Early Childhood Education from Coastal Carolina University. Mrs. Costner has been teaching Hearts’ Stories for two years. She decided to use Hearts’ Stories after she watched the incredible impact it had on the children and the classroom of her good friend, and creator of Hearts’ Stories, Mrs. Jenny Edwards.

You would never believe the people we have interviewed this year. Since school began we have had over 25 special guests visit our classroom. Each of us got to pick the special guest we wanted to invite to visit our classroom for an interview. Some of us chose people who were special to us or whom we admired, sisters, friends, and our moms and dads. We have learned what it is like to work as a chef, house builder, concrete company owner, engineer, geologist, an animal shelter technician, sidewalk builder, tax preparer, horse trainer, hotel manager, postal worker, electrician, marine, bank teller, nurse, photography editor, and fire and water restoration specialist. We were also lucky to have members of our school community come to our classroom for interviews, like our principal, assistant principal, guidance counselor, cafeteria manager, custodian, librarian, and reading teacher. We even got to meet someone who works with snakes and alligators at a really cool place called PLAYCARD and we got to interview our teacher’s husband!

We love Hearts' Stories and we always look forward to our weekly interviews each Friday morning. We have become fabulous note takers, researchers, and writers.
